The Prius V is the widest, longest and tallest of the Gen 3 Prii. Built with the same hybrid system as the Liftback, technicians should be as readily competent for both. Its larger size trades off some fuel economy leaving the Prius V with a 42 mpg combined EPA rating (44 cities and 40 highways). The Prius V also includes the safety features as other Gen 3 Prii, including the same rollover sensing side curtain airbags, antilock brakes, brake override system to mitigate unintended acceleration and Pre-Collision System that emits an artificial sound at low speeds to warn pedestrians as the vehicle approaches. The Hybrid Synergy Drive in the Prius C is virtually identical to the Gen 3 Liftback, and combines with an adapted and efficient 1.8L engine that delivers a total system’s 134-hp. In addition, the Prius V features a beltless electric water pump and exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) system that helps warm the engine quickly during a cold start to conserve fuel consumption. The larger Prius V attracts continued interest; besides being reliable, its 42 mpg rating is double the average 23 mpg rating for the other vehicles in its vehicle class.
